I hope everyone is doing well! I just wanted to post an outfit of the day kind of deal and show everyone that simplicity isn't overrated! Match your neutrals and express your fashion!

Warm to Cool (01/19/15)
Hello Everyone!
I hope you are all doing well today and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
First off I would like to talk to you guys about color.
So we have Cool, Neutral, and Warm colors.
From those names I assume you know which ones are cool, neutral, and warm. For those of you who don't, have no fear! I'll get into deeper detail about them.
So I like to look at these colors like a color spectrum (basically what it is).

So I like to look at these colors like a color spectrum (basically what it is).
So here is a good visual of the color spectrum for the warm to cool colors.
For the cool colors you have any version of Purple/violet, blue/indigo, and green. These colors are known as cool colors and they have a colder feel to them. The warm colors are more of the reds, yellows, and oranges.
These colors often are paired which each other based on the opposite color of the wheel (blue and orange, red and green, purple and yellow etc) So you can kind of see how some people pair complimentary colors. For those of you who are beginners in Men's Fashion, you can start pairing your complimentary colors with the wheel. But keep in mind there will be variations of each other with tone, lightness, darkness, intensity etc.
Keep in mind that you can pair warm colors with warm and cool colors with cool but in moderation. You don't want to walk around looking like a giant red block or a giant blue block! Different hues and tones of colors are acceptable in an ensemble but be careful. I personally find it easier to match cooler colors with cooler colors rather than warmer colors with warmer colors. But in the end it's just my preference.
For now I will keep the color wheel to a minimum just so it's not so much information at once and I don't want to be that guy that posts super long novels in each entry.

Pattern
Hello world!
so today I kind of want to talk about pattern! As you can see I've incorporated a pretty busy shirt with a really neutral and cool navy blue shawl-call cardigan! I think that no matter what, pattern should be something you're always adding into your ensemble. If you look closely, my cardigan is embroidered with a subtle but really nice detail. These two items are completely different in pattern but they compliment each other nicely. Don't be afraid to wear a little bit of pattern!

Outfit of the Day (01/14/15)
Hello everyone!
Today I'll be posting my first outfit of the day! It'll be a simple one and I'm in no rush to run into extremely detailed posts. So here I go!
I'm wearing three main pieces:
Top- a burgundy-ish big knit sweater that I bought from J. Crew (yay sale!) it's pretty warm(the color tone) and comfy (the feel) so I'm actually in love with it.
Bottom- just a gun metal gray skinny jean bought from H&M, the quality isn't that great but I was looking for a skinny jean and I happened to find one for $20! Yay bargaining haha.
Base (aka shoe)- just a brown chukka style shoe/boot that I got from Target for $49.99!
All in all my outfit is on the warm side as the burgundy compliments the brown and then the gray. But yeah that's my outfit for the day today!
Note: I might wear a coat cause the PNW is pretty cold or my melted caramel broadmoor vest from J. Crew. I havent decided yet!

It's YOUR Style!
So I want my first "post" to generally be aimed towards the folks that feel the need to dress a certain way to impress others.
S t o p
You dress the way you want to dress because you like it not because someone else does! So by all means, wear the most outrageous outfit you can possible put together. You don't have to listen to a word I say! These are all just suggestions from my knowledge and what I believe to look good.
Be you, be creative, and be crazy.
Fashion isn't Gucci, Prada, Michael Kors or any of the name brand companies. It's the way you want to portray yourself through clothes. You can wear the cheapest thing from a thrift store and still be the most fashionable person in your social group. Or you can wear the latest Michael Kors suit and be the most chic. It's all ultimately up to you, whether or not people agree with your choices shouldn't be your concern.
B U T
I would advise to start off with the two main basic questions when trying on clothes:
One - Are you comfortable?
Make sure that you are comfortable in your clothes. No one likes wearing a pair of pants that is two sizes too small and four inches too short.
So make sure you have enough room to maneuver around and be comfortable in.
Which also leads me to the next question
Two - Does it fit?
A lot of people tend to give in to the latest fashion trends and wear their pants too low on their waist or wear their jeans too small. Make sure that you are wearing the correct sizes and yes I am talking to the guys who wear a size 32 waist but are actually a size 30. You don't need to be wearing a belt every single time you wear your pants!
With these two questions I hope to find that you all are changing the way you shop by looking for clothes that actually fit you and that you are comfortable in!

Introduction to How Not What
Hello!
My name is Jeremy Duong, but I guess you can just call me Jeremy.
For starters, let me tell you a little bit about myself! First off, I love men's fashion, hair, and styling. I am in the retail business for men's clothing (J. Crew) and I am here to help you all with a little bit of men's styling techniques/tips and tricks!
But that's besides the point in me telling you about myself. Another thing that I do is YouTube (youtube.com/JeremyNugget) and I post some pretty random videos, but I will start to post more of fashion content on there once I start to figure out some things.
I am a community college student, hoping to transfer to a four year university Fall of 2015. Which I do plan on majoring in film/cinematography or Media Arts and Practice. Both of which I am pretty passionate about also.
I am the youngest brother of 3 boys on my mom's side, Justin (20) and Jonathan (26) as of 01/13/15. On my dad's side, I have Justin (again), Tanya (29) and Chris (26). So I guess that makes Justin my only full blood related sibling! But all in all, I love my siblings.
Now more on the subject of why I've created this blog. I want to share with the world my own styling tricks for guys! Whether it would be with colors, fits, shades, patterns, textures, or fabrics. I want to be able to give you guys the knowledge I have gained through the year and few months of working for J. Crew. I know that might not be a long time and I might be a little naive with this entire blog, but I do hope to grow and see where I end up in the future. I want to be able to look back and see where I was in comparison to where I am!
So without further or due, I present to you How Not What!
The blog in which I will show you how to wear certain things rather than what you wear!
